Tolls are increasing on the 520 bridge, effective July 1.

The Washington State Transportation Commission, meeting Wednesday in Port Townsend, voted unanimously to raise toll rates 2.5 percent.

Drivers with an electronic Good to Go pass will pay a new peak rate of $3.70, an increase of eleven cents. The highest rate is for drivers who pay by mail. That toll is going up to $5.25.

The plan is to increase toll rates by 2.5 percent each year until 2016, after the new bridge opens. Then the plan calls for a 15 percent increase in tolls.

WSDOT said in a news release that highway 520 bridge traffic and toll revenue continue to meet projections, with a goal of raising $1 billion to help pay for the new span.
