A Bellingham man charged with killing two teens and injuring two more fell asleep immediately after the collision last week, according to court documents.

William Klein, 34, told a state trooper that he fell asleep and woke up after his SUV hit four young men on June 10.

A drug recognition expert with the Washington State Patrol responded to the scene a short time later and found Klein curled up in the passenger seat.

According to court documents, the trooper shook Klein and woke him up. He slowly sat up &#8212 with blood shot, watery eyes and a flushed face. He told the trooper that he did not use drugs, but he smoked marijuana on a daily basis. However, he said he had not smoked yet that day.

Because of his reaction to the collision and slow movement and speech, the trooper felt that Klein was under the influence of a drug.

The results of a toxicology report are pending.

Klein is charged with two counts of vehicular homicide and two counts of vehicular assault. He posted bond on $200,000 bail on Friday.

Shane Ormiston, 18, and Gabriel Anderson, 15, died at the scene. Two other teens, Michael Brewster, 17, and Kole Randall, 17, were seriously injured.
