Seattle鈥檚 Union Gospel Mission says it needs turkeys to feed the homeless on Thanksgiving.

The mission is asking people to donate 15 to 20-pound frozen turkeys between now and November 26. It needs 1,200.

鈥淲e鈥檝e had a large number of requests for turkeys this year,鈥 Dean Way, food service manager for the Mission said in a news release. 鈥淩ight now, we don鈥檛 have enough turkeys for us to serve our homeless neighbors on Thanksgiving Day, let alone fulfill the requests from people in need.鈥

The mission said it plans to serve breakfast, brunch, and dinner to over 1,500 people at three of its locations across Seattle on Thanksgiving. Turkeys and food boxes also go to families in need and to other charities that need help from the mission.

If you’d like to donate a turkey, you can drop one off at one of three locations:

–Pioneer Square – 318 2nd Ave. Extension S., Seattle WA 98104, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
–Kent Distribution Center – 8226 S. 208th St., Kent, WA 98032, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
–Hope Place Women鈥檚 Recovery Shelter – 3802 S. Othello St., Seattle, WA 98118 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

鈥淚t鈥檚 amazing how the path to recovery and a new life often starts with something simple as a meal,” Mission President Scott Chin said in a news release. “We are so thankful for the generosity and love from so many who make this possible.”

Call Scott Swansen at 206-245-7449 for questions about the turkey drive. Any turkey donation or monetary donation can also be made at
