It’s been known that Bertha, the tunneling machine, has been up and boring for the past few months — after years of standing still. But did you know that an award was given for work while Bertha was stalled?

Mammoet was the company hired to lift Bertha’s massive boring head out of the ground on the Seattle waterfront. And for that work, the company and its team was , an industry honor from the Specialized Carriers and Rigging Association.

The video produced for the award provides insight into the job, revealing how intensive the work was. Mammoet had to invent and build a new machine to complete the task. And that was just the first challenge on the Seattle waterfront. For a video about Bertha’s woes and lifting heavy objects, it is actually rather engaging.
