Washington Attorney General Nick Brown joins 16 other states in a lawsuit against the Trump administration for what his office calls “its unlawful attempt to disrupt grant funding issued by the National Institutes of Health (NIH).”

The challenges “the administration’s unreasonable and intentional delays in reviewing NIH grant applications, as well as its termination of hundreds of grants issued already.” It argues that the projects that have seen funds cut was “based on the federal government disfavoring them — like projects the Trump administration deems as related to diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives or fears about vaccines.” It was filed in U.S. District Court for Massachusetts.

Specifically, the Washington Attorney General’s Office says the University of Washington saw millions in grants cut, which impacted work such as preventing chlamydia infections and determining how air pollution impacts Alzheimer’s disease.

This is the second lawsuit related to the Trump administration cutting costs associated with NIH.
