Monday night’s debate between Washington Governor Jay Inslee and Republican rival Bill Bryant may have lasted about an hour on TV. But it didn’t end then. The back-and-forth Washington gubernatorial debate moved off of the TV screen and onto Twitter.
Second debate between Bill Bryant and Jay Inslee
The two men spent the Washington gubernatorial debate attacking each other, and even getting a few quips in at each other’s expense. Bryant went after Inslee’s record and made an effort to tie Washington’s woes to the governor. Inslee spent the debate drinking from a glass-half-full, saying he was the optimistic candidate. But that didn’t stop him from trying to shoot down Bryant’s statements and positions.
During the debate, the two exchanged a quick comment about Twitter after Bryant insisted that his record was misrepresented.
“You can go on my Twitter, they’ll be tweeting about this right now,” Inslee said of his ongoing fact-checking tweets.
“Oh, I’m sure your team is tweeting about it all over the place,” Bryan responded.
After the post-debate handshakes, their hands hit the keyboard and a Twitter dispute ensued. Bryant was armed with anti-Inslee memes, while Inslee continued tweeting fact-checks on his opponent.
