Washington Secretary of State Kim Wyman became the only Republican to hold a statewide elected position last year. That was amid sweeping claims from many within her party that the results of the 2020 election were fraudulent.

Washington Sec. of State: Onslaught of election lawsuits could cause ‘significant damage’

Despite the attack on the very institution she’s managing for Washington state, Wyman said she’s holding true to the GOP to try to steer it back to its core principles.

“In a (Washington Post) op-ed, Congresswoman Liz Cheney said: ‘Finally, we Republicans need to stand for genuinely conservative principles, and steer away from the dangerous and anti-democratic Trump cult of personality,'” Wyman said in an “ask me anything” session on Reddit this week. “It’s for these very principles that I became and remained a Republican.”

Wyman addressed a wide range of questions surrounding claims of election fraud, her status as a Republican, and more.

Another commenter asked Wyman what she plans to do “to restore the faith of Washington conservatives in our elections,” particularly in the wake of a recently-filed lawsuit alleging thousands of votes statewide were flipped from a third party to Joe Biden in the 2020 election, as well as ongoing claims from former gubernatorial candidate Loren Culp that the election was not legitimate.

Loren Culp continues to push election fraud narrative

Wyman cited other Republican leaders in Washington who have “voiced their support for the security of our elections processes,” including state House GOP leader J.T. Wilcox and state Senate Republican leader John Braun. That said, she also expressed concerns over how future elections might play out given the persistent claims of fraud from others within her party.

“Until losing candidates are willing to accept the results of the election and concede, it will continue to be an uphill battle,” she said.

Wyman went on to point out that the lawsuit challenging the legitimacy of Washington’s 2020 election has yet to produce “any substantive evidence” to support its claims.

“They are alleging felony-level crimes, and yet no proof has been turned over to sheriffs or the FBI,” she noted.
