A 34-year-old woman suspected of breaking into her ex-boyfriend’s apartment and stealing two firearms was arrested after fleeing police Monday morning.
Officers found the woman riding in a car through the parking lot of her ex’s apartment complex in the 2400 block of 76th Avenue SE on Mercer Island at approximately 1:45 a.m. Officers were previously advised by the ex-boyfriend that the woman left a voice message stating she had a gun and she would use it on officers.
The woman’s relationship with her boyfriend ended recently, after he placed a protection order against her. The two met online.
After attempting to stop the vehicle, it left the parking lot and went eastbound on I-90.
The vehicle stopped on I-90 at East Mercer Way and the driver, a male, got out and lay down on the roadway. Before officers could arrest the woman, she got into the driver’s seat and fled the scene “at a high rate of speed” towards Bellevue, according to the Mercer Island Police Department.
Officers were told by the man that the woman was “crazy” and had a gun.
Just as officers were terminating the pursuit due to high speeds, the vehicle pulled over – or lost control – according to Service Division Commander Leslie Burns.
The woman was arrested at 2:40 a.m. She had a firearm, which was later confirmed as one of two allegedly stolen from her boyfriend.
