Police say a DUI suspect driving the wrong way on State Route 410 caused a head-on crash that killed two people.

Early Sunday morning, other motorists spotted a vehicle going the wrong way on SR 167.

Several called 911 to report it.

They said the vehicle was headed northbound in the southbound lanes on the freeway, near the SR 512 interchange.

State troopers say the driver then got onto SR 410.

That’s when the wrong-way vehicle hit another car, head on, just west of the Valley Ave. exit from SR 410.

Two people in the other car died from the impact of the collision.

Troopers say the driver who caused the crash was also hurt.

Medics transported the driver to a hospital.

Later, the state patrol reported the driver had been arrested on suspicion of DUI and Vehicular Homicide.

The crash blocked all lanes of westbound SR 410 for quite a while, as troopers investigated.

Crews from East Pierce Fire & Rescue assisted with the emergency response.
