A night of metal at El Corazon

This past Friday my buddy Erynn and I headed over to El Corazon, a small rock club that hosts mainly hardcore and metal bands, to check out local guys Akimbo. They were part of a line-up that included Grey, Lesbian, Samothrace, and headliner EYEHATEGOD. Akimbo put on a really great show at Bumbershoot several months ago and I had to see them again. Turns out however that by the time we reached El Corazon, Akimbo had just finished their set. Ack! So I missed the exact band I was itching to see, but it’s ok because I knew I could still get my metal fix as there were two more acts scheduled to go on, Samothrace and EYEHATEGOD. So, with disappointment under my belt and a cold brew on my mind Erynn and I joined the long line of black hoodied, pierced and tattooed metal heads eager for a drink. The bar was absolutely packed and getting bumped into and elbowed every ten seconds wore thin quickly, so after a couple of drinks we walked into the main stage room of El Corazon to take in some music.

Check out more photos!

EYEHATEGOD had already taken the stage and I think I actually saw some skin and someones eyebrow lying on the ground as most of the folks in the room had had their faces melted off already. These guys were beyond brutal. They killed a kitty on stage…………….just kidding. If you like sludge metal, heavy, detuned guitar riffs and vocals that have a cookie monster/mush mouth sound quality to them, as my friend Chris put it, then this is the band for you. EYEHATEGOD are a mound of explosive energy, in fact, if they had been around in 1945 I’m sure the U.S. Government would have ordered them dropped from the Enola Gay on Hiroshima. All that aggressive energy forced from the stage embedded itself into the crowd which led to fists cold cocking the air, multiple stage dives and I’m sure half the crowd got whiplash from all the headbanging.

My brain is often peppered with all different kinds of music, but tonight, it was assaulted.

New Music: Onuinu – ‘Happy Home’

Dorian Duvall is Onuinu, (on-you-in-you) an electro-pop music maker coming to us from Portland, OR whose pseudonym is one that I’m sure will confuse the masses with it’s exact pronunciation for years to come. It’s a good thing that the music coming form this dude is something worth paying attention to or else it would […]
