Braids @ Sunset Tavern, Video

I’ve known about Montreal based band BRAIDS for several months but I’ve only started listening to their music as of the last few weeks. I’m sure glad I made the decision to listen to the sweetly memorizing tunes that these kids produce because I am now a much happier person. Seriously. My blood pressure has dropped dramatically (don’t worry, it’s at a safe and sane level) and I have been saying hello to more people around the office and around my apartment building. And, being able to watch BRAIDS perform at The Sunset Tavern this past weekend made for a nice musical closure. Lead singer Raphaelle Standell-Preston is a vocal contortionist having the ability to shift her tone from a slow subdued vacancy to a full on Bjork like howl in an instant. The translation of the sound of the record to the live setting was spot on having all the lush, spacey atmospherics you’ve come to know and love about BRAIDS and their debut record Native Speaker. BRAIDS proved both to me and to the adoring crowd their worth in the music world. Check some video below from the show…
