was founded in Tacoma in 2006 and has been acting as ‘a platform for arts and culture in the Puget Sound’ ever since. Over the years the magazine has been steadily growing in popularity acting as a liaison to the readers of our community regarding the art and culture scene in Seattle and around the region, and last year the magazine unveiled the very first City Arts Fest which proved to be a massive success. Building on last year’s success, the folks at City Arts Magazine have decided to do the music fest thing for a second year, and I am positive that this year will be just as massive if not bigger than it’s inaugural creation. With bands like Robyn, Crystal Castles, Grand Hallway, YACHT and tons of others, you pretty much can’t go wrong.
Here’s a short list of some of the bands I really think you need to see…
Swedish dance pop music maker Robyn will be playing the Paramount Theatre along with Portland based band YACHT this Thursday night. I had the chance to see Robyn at this year’s Sasquatch! Music Fest and I can tell you that if you see this show you will dance, and dance hard. Occasional podcast partner Alyssa K and I had the chance to chat with Jona and Claire of YACHT this past Bumbershoot and you can listen to that here.
Crystal Castles are performing this same night along with Crypts and Nightmare Fortress at Showbox SoDo so if you want to catch Robyn and YACHT first, you will totally have time to take in a bit of Crystal Castles as they go on at 11.30p.

Friday night plays host to lots of artists that I’m not too familiar with like Ryan Adams, Built to Spill, Fences and some other bands that the general public really dig so maybe you should check them out. I don’t know. What I can tell you though is that local music makers Shabazz Palaces and Viper Creek Club are performing at The Triple Door and The Crocodile, respectively. I’ve been able to catch both of these bands at one point or another and I promise you that you will love them if you go see them. Also, Blue Sky Black Death are totally great too. Third Party is the only record I have from them but it’s a darn good one. They play The Chop Suey along with USF w/ Big Spiders Back And Brain Fruit.
