Decibel Festival 2011 is underway and last night the streets of Seattle were crawling with people wanting to get their fix of the best electro/techno/house/chill/drum and bass and every other genre you can come up with from around the world, around the country and from our very own city, which in itself, boasts an impressive lot of artists performing this year. The first stop of the evening was the HG Lodge. The HG Lodge took over the old War Room space on Capitol Hill and last night was host to the Dropping Gems Showcase. is a collective and label that has only been around for a year or so and the fine folks who run Decibel found them to be worthy of a spot on the Decibel line-up. Good call Decibel. The Lodge wasn’t packed by any means but the people that were there were absolutely loving the music. I dropped by to catch a bit of which whom I’ve just discovered recently and I am completely sold on their brand of smooth, glitchy, acoustic electro that they’re making. Check some tunes below…

After Ghost Feet, I trotted down to the Crocodile to try to catch the last bit of and walked in just as he was finishing one of my favorite tunes, ‘Still Sound’. , you will love it. Toro y Moi was the headliner for the evening and the place was full of folks sweating all over themselves and dancing their chill wave hearts out without a care in the world. Who says Seattleites don’t dance?

Finally, I trekked over to the Re-Bar to catch some of UK producer where I happened to run into this girl I had gone out on a date with a week and a half before and never called back. Awwwkwarrrd. It was cool though. We chatted and made a plan to hang out the following week. So, we’ll see what happens then. Hold on. We’re not here to chat about my dating life, we’re here to chat about Zomby and how I’m pretty sure he was having massive technical problems throughout the evening. The Re-Bar was packed to the gills which was surprising to me. Not because Zomby is bad because he’s really, really great actually but because whenever I find out about a new artist, I forget that there are other people in this world who are also finding out about new music and that I’m not the only one privy to Zomby’s brand of awsomeness. As Zomby played and people danced, occasionally the sound would cut out for a second here and a second there and at one point some dude was on stage with Zomby I can only assume trying to figure out what the hell the problem was. For the most part though, the sound was great and the show was really fun so whatever the problems were I don’t think the audience was any the wiser. One thing that sort of sucked about the show was that Zomby was not into the scene at all. He wasn’t pumping the crowd up with arm waves or clapping or anything. He just stood behind his decks and computers sometimes as still as stone. Maybe that was because he was having a bad night but c’mon man, at least try to have a good time.

I’ve cut the video below to show you a small progression of how the set went, with Zomby leaving the stage not once but twice. The last time he left he returned only to close his laptop and call it a night…

Listen to my most recent mixtape which showcases tons of artists from this year’s Decibel.

As for tonight? I’ve got some Geographer on deck along with Amon Tobin, Depressed Buttons, Ladytron and Camea. Check Decibel’s for more info on the festival.

New Music: Onuinu – ‘Happy Home’

Dorian Duvall is Onuinu, (on-you-in-you) an electro-pop music maker coming to us from Portland, OR whose pseudonym is one that I’m sure will confuse the masses with it’s exact pronunciation for years to come. It’s a good thing that the music coming form this dude is something worth paying attention to or else it would […]
