Fol Chen are mysterious. Fol Chen are elusive. Fol Chen are playing tonight at the and you should go see them. The sextet is coming out of California and have two albums to their name, Part I: John Shade, Your Fortune’s Made and the most recent just released July 6th, Part II: The New December. I’ve been listening to this record almost non stop and it’s a really strange album upon first consumption. However, every time I listen I hear something I didn’t notice before, whether it’s a certain cryptic lyric or just an odd musical sound. If you give this record a chance I promise you that it will become one of your favorites. Just listen to the song ‘In Ruins’ and then tell me you don’t want to be in the exact picture the singer is painting with her words eventually wrapped up in her arms, dancing, after you’ve met at the checkpoint. Here’s a little something about Fol Chen from the press release…

For its second album, Highland Park sextet Fol Chen presents Part II: The New December, songs of malaise and miscommunication set to dark pop and glitch-riddled chamber funk. Since the band’s inception, Fol Chen has remained a mysterious entity – its membership disguised by masks and aliases, its lyrics appearing as transmissions from a fictional world…Fol Chen’s bent, blackened takes on the pop eccentrics of yore provided fresh context for its own kaleidoscopic songs, and The New December shores up the group’s slippery identity further still. This is Fol Chen’s most focused work – as consistent as it is consuming, as enjoyable as it is unusual.

Check the video for Fol Chen’s new single ‘In Ruins’ below…

Fol Chen have a and make sure to Asthmatic Kitty Records so you can download lots of music too.

New Music: Onuinu – ‘Happy Home’

Dorian Duvall is Onuinu, (on-you-in-you) an electro-pop music maker coming to us from Portland, OR whose pseudonym is one that I’m sure will confuse the masses with it’s exact pronunciation for years to come. It’s a good thing that the music coming form this dude is something worth paying attention to or else it would […]
