Even after chatting at length with Chicago based about what style of music they’re making and which term would best describe their sound, I am still uncertain as to whether I should call them a soul band, a soul revival band or just refer to them as a group of dudes making music that they enjoy making but with a touch of influence from the days of Stax Records. However it is you or I choose to frame it, it’s an undeniable fact that JCBUS make tunes that get audiences twisting and turning all the live long day.
El Corazon, which is usually host to hardcore and metal bands, had a literal change of tune this past Friday night when JC Brooks and The Uptown Sound graced the smallish stage to unload an arsenal of songs that ranged from the slow, sexy, soulful sounds of 1963 to the upbeat, hip shaking, finger snapping tunes that you can’t help but feaking love. JCBUS have a new record out now called Want More and they weren’t shy about playing a heaping handful of songs for the small but oh so into the scene crowd in attendance. Watch some video below of the guys performing ‘I Got High’ and also a cover of Wilco’s ‘I Am Trying to Break Your Heart’. Good stuff people!

JC Brooks had no problem addressing the crowd throughout the night even getting a bit raunchy in the process…

The guys certainly know how to do dark, slow and sexy with ’75 Years of Art Sex’ from their …

JCBUS had the entire audience, myself included, locked in the palms of their sweaty hands the entire evening not letting any of us go until they were absolutely ready to take mercy on us. I think I can speak for everyone when I say, thank you JC Brooks and The Uptown Sound for being awesome and knowing how to put on a show that will be not be soon forgotten.
