Beginning in 2008 Deftones were in the process of recording their sixth studio album Eros, only for the band to shelve the album indefinitely in 2009 after bassist Chi Cheng was involved in a car accident. As a result of the wreck Cheng fell into a coma which he has not yet recovered from as of present day. Deftones however are continuing to move forward and are planning to release their newly recorded sixth album Diamond Eyes on May 18th. The video for the new single ‘Rocket Skates’ is available now at as a free HD download and the song itself is available for purchase at . Here’s what Chino Moreno had to say about writing for the new album…
“Our inspiration and unity as a band is stronger than it has ever been before and we needed to channel that energy into our music.”
Chino speaking about another new song called ‘Nylons and Suspenders’…
‘Musically, it’s something that we haven’t done before…It’s very… sludgy, like a chainsaw-type of riff but very slow. I shouldn’t say this, but it’s clunky… in an awesome way.’
Oh! ‘Rocket Skates’ will also be available for purchase on April 17th as an exclusive, limited-edition seven-inch vinyl single pressing with a picture sleeve that supports national Sweet!
