New Music: Mastodon – ‘Black Tongue’

Atlanta metal band Mastodon will be returning September 27th with their fifth studio album The Hunter and the guys have released a song called ‘Black Tongue’ along with a video of artist AJ Fosik’s process as he created the sculpture from the album’s cover. Guitarist/vocalist Brent Hinds told that the new LP would be a ‘jump-on-your-bed, get naked, and go streaking kind of record’… ‘I haven’t had this feeling about a Mastodon record since [2004’s] Leviathan,’… ‘It’s just fucking awesome.’ There you have it, straight from the horse’s mouth. Or, maybe I should say straight from the creepy deer/goat/horse thingy’s mouth.
I’m not a massive metal head or anything but I really like these guys and I’ve been fortunate enough to get to see Mastodon play live a couple of times. Once when they were touring with Dethklok and Fire on High and another when they were on tour with Alice in Chains and Deftones. Completely awesome. Did you know that Mastodon is playing the Gorge this weekend? Well, they are. Along side Soundgarden, QOTSA and Meat Puppets. Sick.
