Paul White is a mega talented producer coming out of South London and has recently released his sophomore record, Paul White & The Purple Brain and it. is. a. trip. The entire record is based around and inspired by the work of little-known Swedish psych-rock guru S.T. Mikael. Below is a bit from Paul White’s bandcamp page describing the record…
Mikael芒鈧劉s music is heavy on Eastern influences and otherworldly concerns, and ranges from searing electric guitar-led dirges to dreamlike ballads to ghostly atmospheric experiments. Sometimes all within the same song.
Paul White has reimagined and remoulded and Mikael’s sounds, and added his own, to make an intriguing and mesmerising album that sounds unlike anyone else but him. It’s recognisably hip hop (just check ‘Marshen Signals’) but it’s psychedelic, spontaneous and free in a way that seems far from most definitions of the genre today. A fascinating album from a fascinating producer.
A new video has been released as well and I’m not entirely sure if it was produced brand new by Paul White and his peeps or if they just laid his track ‘Pride’ over the animation, but again, it. is. a. trip. And! It will bring you back to the day of …
I urge you to check Paul White’s or right now to buy this thing or at least check some more of the tunes.
