in Fremont hosts a variety of music from funk and soul to rock and electronica from all over the world, so it’s a great place to get a fix of new music on any day of the week. Last night I was super excited to see an outfit called Keenhouse who have a sound that reminds me of Daft Punk and the eighties and also I gave some ear to openers Fighter X and Lexicon Don.
is two dudes based out of Seattle who make trance/dance chiptune music. Chiptune is essentially taking the sounds and music from a Nintendo Gameboy and mixing it with beats. Pretty much amazing if you ask me. What was cool about watching these guys work and completely jam out by the way, was that they actually had Gameboys in front of them and while one dude was turning knobs and mixing beats the other was playing a Gameboy. It was like we were watching these two in their parents basement playing video games with totally killer dance music behind them. At one point both of these guys were heads down into the Gameboys making music. Amazing!
hail from L.A. and is comprised of three guys who make hip hop, electro/pop and right from the start of their set, created an energy that made the crowd go beserk. It was impossible to not dance and sing along to nearly every song as Lexicon Don had us in their sights and weren’t letting us go. Some songs were silly but all had great grooves and hooks and this mixed with the entire bands attitude, which was jokey and upbeat, made for a fun and lasting experience.
are two brilliant people who make amazingly good electro/disco house that takes you on a trip back to the eighties. Both folks that make up this duo play synth and sing and create music that makes you groove and dance all over the place while other songs make you feel like you’re flying over the city through a bank of clouds watching the city lights twinkle below. Maybe I say that because the fog machine was on overload and I was getting tipsy but these guys put on a great live show and translated the feel of the album wonderfully to the stage. Keenhouse have a full length record out now called Civic Transit and I’m sure you won’t be disappointed if you were to pick one up.
