The Heavy @ Showbox: Watch the Video

English boys played the Showbox Market last night and it was amazing. I’ve seen them play 3 times now and every time I see them they just keep getting better and better. The Heavy play a mix of guitar heavy neo soul and rock using crunchy guitar, funky horns, and James Brown-like vocals. Their songs incorporate many different styles to create a potpourri; for example, ‘Sixteen’ samples the horn line from Screamin’ Jay Hawkins’s ‘I Put a Spell on You’, ‘Oh No! Not You Again’ emulates garage rock and ‘Girl’ is a combination of spoken word and rap.
The crowd last night absolutely loved these blokes and the energy in the room was off the charts. If you go to see The Heavy and you don’t dance or shake something that your mama gave you, there is something seriously wrong with you. Oh! Check my interview with The Heavy from this year’s Sasquatch! Music Festival and watch some video from last night’s show…
