500full-the-knife

have released a brand new track called ‘Colouring of Pigeons’, a song from their operatic composition Tomorrow, In A Year, in which they have collaborated with and and the sound is absolutely huge. Operatic in fact, go figure. The Knife were commissioned by Danish performance group to write the music for their opera based on Charles Darwin and his book 芒鈧淥n the Origin of the Species芒鈧劉. It’s less electronic than The Knife’s previous work but it definately has a familiar feel especially when Karin makes her presence known and we hear her unmistakable croon. This is what Olof had to say about writing for the opera…

芒鈧揂t first it was very difficult as we really didn芒鈧劉t know anything about opera. We芒鈧劉d never been to one. I didn芒鈧劉t even know what the word libretto meant. But after some studying, and just getting used to opera芒鈧劉s essence of pretentious and dramatic gestures, I found that there is a lot to learn and play with. In fact, our ignorance gave us a positive respectless approach to making opera. It took me about a year to become emotionally moved by an opera singer and now I really do. I really like the basic theatrical values of opera and the easy way it brings forward a narrative. We芒鈧劉ve approached this before in The Knife but never in such a clear way.芒鈧

New Music: Onuinu – ‘Happy Home’

Dorian Duvall is Onuinu, (on-you-in-you) an electro-pop music maker coming to us from Portland, OR whose pseudonym is one that I’m sure will confuse the masses with it’s exact pronunciation for years to come. It’s a good thing that the music coming form this dude is something worth paying attention to or else it would […]
