have released a brand new track called ‘Colouring of Pigeons’, a song from their operatic composition Tomorrow, In A Year, in which they have collaborated with and and the sound is absolutely huge. Operatic in fact, go figure. The Knife were commissioned by Danish performance group to write the music for their opera based on Charles Darwin and his book 芒鈧淥n the Origin of the Species芒鈧劉. It’s less electronic than The Knife’s previous work but it definately has a familiar feel especially when Karin makes her presence known and we hear her unmistakable croon. This is what Olof had to say about writing for the opera…
芒鈧揂t first it was very difficult as we really didn芒鈧劉t know anything about opera. We芒鈧劉d never been to one. I didn芒鈧劉t even know what the word libretto meant. But after some studying, and just getting used to opera芒鈧劉s essence of pretentious and dramatic gestures, I found that there is a lot to learn and play with. In fact, our ignorance gave us a positive respectless approach to making opera. It took me about a year to become emotionally moved by an opera singer and now I really do. I really like the basic theatrical values of opera and the easy way it brings forward a narrative. We芒鈧劉ve approached this before in The Knife but never in such a clear way.芒鈧
