Neo-psychedelic alternative rockers, The Smashing Pumpkins, are back with a brand new album. Well, sort of. The only lasting member of the band, Billy Corgan, is going to give this music thing one more shot and has announced a new web-based project that he’s calling Teargarden by Kaleidyscope. Corgan will be releasing 44 new singles one song at a time on website. Here’s how he describes the goings on…
“Each song will be made available absolutely for free, to anyone anywhere,” says Corgan in a statement. “There will be no strings attached. Free will mean free, which means you won’t have to sign up for anything, give an e-mail address, or jump through a hoop. You will be able to go and take the song or songs as you wish, as many times as you wish.”
You can read the entire article and the first single, ‘A Song for a Son’, has already been made available and I’ve got it for you below…
I was completely in love with The Smashing Pumpkins when they first arrived on the scene in the early 90’s and followed them into the 2000’s. They had impeccable musicianship, cryptic and touching lyrics and songs that even today sound . Towards the end of the Pumpkins career however, I got off the band wagon as I thought the music was suffering and I felt Corgan had run out of creative inspiration. I wonder if he’s releasing these 44 singles for free because deep down he knows that folks are tired of The Smashing Pumpkins and all the attempts of reinvention and probably won’t drop a dime on any new music.
thanks to Kristina for the heads up
