It was a match made in Costco. Susan and David Barrow celebrated their two year anniversary much in the same way they first met — with mustard.
“We met in Costco in the mustard aisle,” Susan told 成人X站 Radio’s Dori Monson. “It was the Kirkland Costco, aisle 38.”
Why Seattle women are such big drinkers — men
That was in March 2014. It was a Costco blind date. The mustard-themed meeting was a good blend. The pair were married six months later.
So this month, the couple decided to celebrate their wedding anniversary by touring Costcos in the area dressed up as Mr. and Mrs. Mustard. Their tour Susan said that there has been so much depressing news lately, she wanted to do something fun.
A Costco blind date
David got Susan’s phone number from a friend and the two started chatting on the phone. They hit it off. So David decided to take it to the next level.
鈥淚 wanted to ask her out on a date, but I wanted it to be very normal 鈥 so I invited her out to Costco,” he said. “I think she thought I was a bit crazy.”
She didn’t think he was crazy.
“I thought he was either really cheap,” Susan said. “Or, because I鈥檓 a single mom, maybe he was going to fill a basket and bless me with a whole bunch of food.”
“I got neither of them,” she noted. “I got free samples, though.”
Susan headed into the blind date with an open mind. She didn’t know what the guy on the phone looked like, though David had her business card with her photo on it.
“I鈥檓 waiting there by the mustard and anytime someone came down, I was like, 鈥業s this him, is this him?鈥” Susan said. “There was this lovely lady named Doris having a difficult time deciding if she wanted to buy mayonnaise or not. And she was distracting me, and I was like, 鈥楲isten, lady, I don鈥檛 have time to talk with you right now because this could be the date of my life.’ He turned the corner then, with a smile, and I figured that was him.鈥
“In person, she was much prettier than her business card,” David added. “I asked Doris to take a picture of us. That was the beginning of us becoming Mr. and Mrs. Mustard. The mustard was in the background. We walked around getting free samples and talking.”
As it turns out, Costco was a good date idea, but David did make one misstep that day — forgot to buy Susan the hot dog he promised her. On their anniversary, he fixed that. The two ate a hot dog together, starting at each end and meeting in the middle.
