The fact that a Chinese flag was flying at the state capitol last Friday didn’t sit well with a group of citizens, so they decided to do something about it. And it worked.

A group called Freedom for All traveled to Olympia on Saturday, the day after a Chinese delegation visited with Governor Jay Inslee, and succeeded in getting the flag taken down.

³ÉÈËXÕ¾ Radio’s Dori Monson was happy to see that a group of people was not only willing to stand up for its beliefs, but was actually successful in telling the government what to do.

“I’m fascinated by this because they actually succeeded,” Monson said Tuesday. “Even though somebody in the highest level of state government ordered that flag flown, a bunch of citizens succeeded in getting it taken down, and that doesn’t happen very often where the citizens actually are in charge. But that’s the way it should be. Regardless of whether you agree or disagree with how outraged these guys were over the communist Chinese flag flying over the state capitol, I just think it’s cool that some people are still willing, able and successful in standing up for what they believe.”

Anthony Bosworth, a member of Freedom for All, talked to Monson about the group’s issue with the flag. For Bosworth, the fact that China is the Washington’s No. 1 trading partner does not make up for its oppressive government.

“It’s an enemy in belief. China stands for everything that America does not stand for,” Bosworth said. “We don’t believe in oppression of people’s rights, we don’t believe in oppression of people’s liberty of freedom.”
