鈥淲ashington鈥檚 Most Wanted鈥� may have retired from TV, but statewide crime and the show鈥檚 former executive producer and host David Rose clearly have not.

WMW . And Rose 鈥� who already co-anchors the 5, 6, 10 and 11 p.m. news on FOX 13 鈥� is now focusing on broader crime stories on 鈥淭he Spotlight.鈥� The new half-hour show premiered at 8 p.m., Sunday, on FOX 13.

After almost 23 years of hosting 鈥淲ashington鈥檚 Most Wanted,鈥� Rose told The Dori Monson Show that the show wasn鈥檛 getting as many 鈥渞equests to do fugitive hunts.鈥�

That鈥檚 when producers began asking, 鈥渨hat鈥檚 the next thing we can do to tackle some of these bigger crime and public safety issues, 鈥� extend the conversation? How do we keep everybody safe?鈥� Rose said. 鈥淭he Spotlight takes the time to dig into these issues.鈥�

Following the show鈥檚 debut, Rose described his interview with state Rep. Jesse Johnson (D-Federal Way). Rep. Johnson, along with Rep. Roger Goodman (D-Kirkland), is behind the new law which limits law enforcement pursuits only to cases involving 鈥渞easonable cause,鈥� and not 鈥渞easonable suspicion.鈥� Dori and other critics say the law has given criminals the freedom to steal cars and property with little to no consequence.

Democratic lawmakers and police critics say law enforcement professionals are misinterpreting the law鈥檚 intent.

鈥淣umerous detectives and police officers on the beat that I鈥檝e talked to say that鈥檚 not the case,鈥� Rose told Dori.

Like cops who have talked to Dori, Rose says his contacts tell him: 鈥淚鈥檓 not going to put my house in jeopardy, my family in jeopardy, my freedom in jeopardy trying to figure out what this law is. 鈥� I鈥檓 not going to gamble with that.鈥�

And in an interview that caught Rose by surprise, Rep. Johnson told him that, after a ride-along with Bonney Lake police, he saw 鈥渇irst-hand that the pendulum might have swung too far.鈥�

Is there any chance of swinging that pendulum back? Rose wanted to know. Rep. Johnson鈥檚 answer: 鈥淚 hope.鈥�

Meanwhile, Rose told Dori, the TV anchor is not abandoning his work to catch criminals.

鈥淭hat鈥檚 still in my bones,鈥� Rose said.
