In the latest Seattle educational news, there was a big protest at Garfield High School on Thursday.

Do kids and teachers spend any time in class anymore? They are always protesting during school hours.

RELATED: Teacher union’s greed causes massive deficits for districts

The Garfield High School librarian wants tax hikes to protect his job because they’re making big cuts in positions like his. The librarian’s position is being cut to half-time. That’s because the schools don’t have enough money. The schools don’t have enough money because the teachers union hijacked the taxpayers for gigantic, unsustainable raises. And the teachers knew that they were going to be effectively cutting the jobs of their coworkers, like librarians, but they didn’t care. The greed of the teachers union toward kids, coworkers, and taxpayers is unbelievable.

The simplistic pitch that is all-too often given by these school employees, and aided by the media, is that we just need to raise taxes. That’s the basis of the unconstitutional income tax in Olympia right now. “It’s for the children.”

I looked up this librarian’s salary. It is about $78,600 a year. Add in his benefits, he makes $108,000 of our tax money a year. That seems fair for a school librarian. I know you need a master’s to be a librarian, I’m not disparaging the job.

The only reason his job is in any danger is because his colleagues in the hallways of Garfield High School and throughout the Seattle School District had so much naked greed for gigantic raises that were unsubstantiated with funding. I told you throughout that entire ridiculous strike process last fall that the strategy was to first get these raises, and then go whining to Olympia for more money.

It was a very carefully calculated strategy, and I told you this as strike after strike unfolded last fall. Now we need to raise our taxes to give even more money to our “understaffed and underfunded schools” — what a load of manufactured nonsense.
