On a sunny Sunday morning in July, the body of Issaquah native and longtime Maple Valley distance runner Greg Moore, 53, was found in a ditch, after a 15-year-old SeaTac girl and her 14-year-old passenger allegedly struck the man as a 鈥減rank鈥 while driving at least 50 miles per hour, according to King County Sheriff鈥檚 court records.
Why county isn鈥檛 prosecuting teen suspect in fatal Maple Valley hit-and-run as an adult
King County prosecutors later added another felony hit-and-run and second-degree assault charge against the teen driver when video emerged of the girl allegedly striking an unidentified pedestrian with a car in Des Moines. The video shows the teen laughing with a friend during the second incident.
Now, four months later, the SeaTac girl 鈥 who faces juvenile court second-degree murder and hit-and-run charges in Moore鈥檚 death 鈥 may be released from detention on Monday to a friend鈥檚 mother, pending a yet-undetermined trial date.
Moore鈥檚 widow, Michelle — who was alerted to the teen driver鈥檚 potential Nov. 15 release from a victim advocate 鈥 reached out to The Dori Monson Show to update listeners on the case.
鈥淚t鈥檚 something the defense is pushing for,鈥 Michelle explained. 鈥淪he could get released to the mother of her girlfriend, live quite comfortably and go to school. Apparently, she doesn鈥檛 like being detained.鈥
What, Dori wondered, 鈥渨ent through your heart? Your mind? Your gut?鈥 when you heard this news.
鈥淚 would like to say 鈥榮hocked,鈥 but I don鈥檛 even think that鈥檚 the right word because I鈥檓 not shocked anymore,鈥 Michelle said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 like we鈥檙e living in an alternate universe and she鈥檚 the victim.”
鈥淣ot putting people in jail doesn鈥檛 stop crime,鈥 Michelle told Dori鈥檚 listeners. 鈥淚t emboldens criminals.鈥
The King County prosecutor鈥檚 office told the Dori Monson Show that they oppose the release. The victim advocate that spoke to Michelle Moore works for the prosecutor’s office.

Just five months ago, Michelle recalls, 鈥淕reg and I were just a happy, quiet couple getting used to having our first grandchildren.鈥
Instead, she and friends plan to attend the teen鈥檚 Nov. 15 hearing at 12:30 p.m. at the Patricia H. Clark Children and Family Justice Center on Seattle鈥檚 First Hill to 鈥渆xercise our constitutional rights, because this is not justice.鈥
