On Tuesday night in Olympia, there was a new kind of event at Olympia City Hall. It was called “Give a Cr*p About Olympia.”

The organizers, fed up with open defecation on the sidewalks in Olympia, decided to hold a “poop-in.” This meant that participants defecated on the sidewalk in front of Olympia City Hall to protest the fact that this kind of illegal and unsanitary behavior is tolerated downtown.

The description reads:

People are shamelessly depositing needles, garbage, and excrement into our forests, trails, and waterways. They are [defecating] on public sidewalks and in public spaces with impunity. Derelict RVs are piling up unaddressed, even sometimes dumping raw sewage into our community. Meanwhile, everyday citizens are ticketed left and right. This is not due to a lack of resources. This is not an issue of affordable housing, shelter, or social services. This is a lack of response, by choice, by our city leaders. The foul stench is on their hands. It is enabling, disabling, and destructive all at once. The city spends our tax dollars cleaning up defecation rather than punishing those who do it.

We are trying to get the organizers on the show, but they are afraid to come on. That is understandable — if you say or do anything perceived to be critical of how the city handles (or rather, doesn’t handle) homelessness, you are doxxed.

But imagine the level of frustration that leads people to want to do a poop-in. Imagine what they must be seeing every day downtown. I have talked to scores of business owners throughout the Puget Sound who have absolutely had it with the drug vagrancy that engulfs their businesses.

Fox News’ Tucker Carlson had a series this week called “” about San Francisco. The parallels between San Francisco and the Seattle area are amazing. A cop in the piece explained how the sternest punishment that people tend to get for crimes such as stealing purses, camping on the sidewalk, or public defecation is a citation. These are usually thrown away because prosecutors know the drug addicts won’t pay any fines or show up in court. Those who do end up in jail are usually back out on the streets days later. Just like in Seattle, in the Bay Area you can just break the law with impunity.

In , he talked to a grocery store owner who said that because California decriminalized petty theft, people shoplift in his store “15 to 20 times a day.” The grocery store owner regularly sees urination and drug use right outside his doors, and has even been bitten in the arm. He said that it has been years since he has had a day of work where nothing went wrong. Here is a guy who has been creating jobs and paying taxes for decades. But he is just seeing his life’s labor swallowed up by the incompetence of politicians.

And it’s more than incompetence. In these far leftist cities like Seattle, San Francisco, L.A., and Portland, there is a calculated movement to create more homelessness. In Seattle, Sawant says the solution is an Amazon tax to build public housing. We used to have public housing in Seattle. We tore it down decades ago because it was a cesspool of drugs and crime. But more public housing will attract more drug vagrants from around the country here, and will allow the socialists to expand their voting base to include these people, who will conveniently all be located in one place.

The truth of the matter is, nobody is trying to help anyone get by. Sawant could not give a “protest material in Olympia” about any homeless person.
