Jeff, it’s time for you to go.
I say this not for the same reason all the protesters and rioters have been screaming in the streets for months and years about you. Even though we’ve never met, I’m giving you this advice as a friendly admirer who is appreciative of the company you’ve built, the jobs you’ve created, and the tax revenues you and your employees have provided.
I know you built Amazon out of a garage here in Seattle. And maybe you still feel some strange allegiance toward our region. But it’s like you’re now in an abusive relationship and it’s time for you to get out. Any love you have for Seattle is unrequited.
Kshama Sawant screams “Jeff Bezos is the enemy.” Seattle City Council passes the largest business tax in our city’s history directed at you and your company. On Sunday, rioters with baseball bats targeted your Amazon Go store, smashed all the windows, tagged it with vile graffiti. When are you going to say “enough?”
It’s time for Seattle to live with the consequences of Marxist politicians who have declared their goal is to “destroy capitalism.” Start showing them what that looks like. Show them what happens when you take our biggest private employer out of the city. Show them what socialism looks like when they run out of other people’s money to confiscate.
Now, selfishly, I would love for you to stay in the area. Everett, Tacoma, the Eastside would all make fine homes for Amazon.
I’d hate to lose all your company brings to our economy in our region. But it’s time for you to get out of Seattle.
And hey, while I’m giving you friend to friend advice, make sure you get a pre-nup with this new woman in your life.
Your pal,
Dori
