People have been making prank calls since not long after the telephone was invented. The latest trend involves conference calls.

Recently, a couple of pranksters called up two pizza joints and conferenced the calls together so that each shop thought the other shop was ordering a pizza. The pranksters recorded the confusion, and then posted the results online. Hilarity ensued.

Well, this time out – the same thing happened to a couple of high-powered NFL general managers.

A couple of 20-year-old guys called the front office of the Buffalo Bills, told the receptionist they were the GM from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Mark Dominik, and asked to speak to the Buffalo Bills GM, Buddy Nix. They were stunned when they were put through. They panicked and hung up immediately.

Then Buddy Nix called them back. They ignored it. He called back. Again, they ignored it. He kept calling for the rest of the day and the following morning. So these pranksters decided to call the other GM, Mark Dominick, and pretend to be Buddy Nix. As that call was being put through, Nix called them once again – the two conferenced the two calls and then listened in.

The two just shoot the breeze for about six minutes. At one point, they start talking about some of their problem players like the Bills’ high-priced quarterback
Ryan Fitzpatrick.

“We’re still struggling here with our quarterback,” Nix tells Dominick. “He’s going to have to do something or we’re going to […] we just can’t afford that kind of money for a guy doing a back up job.”

Embarrassing.

There apparently were consequences to this prank. After this audio went public yesterday, the Bills, late in the afternoon, their quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.
