Seattle Police Department (SPD) officers arrested a 43-year-old man in Belltown after he assaulted another man with an axe during Fourth of July festivities.
At approximately 6:50 p.m. on Friday, patrol officers were dispatched to respond to an altercation occurring in an alley near the intersection of Blanchard Street and First Avenue in Seattle’s Belltown neighborhood.
“Two men got into an altercation with one another, and during the disturbance, one of the men attacked the other man with an axe,” SPD stated in its crime blotter.
The victim suffered a “severe incision” to his arm while suffering another injury to his head. Officers applied a tourniquet to him, who suffered significant blood loss.
Once first aid was administered in the alley, first responders with the Seattle Fire Department (SFD) transported the victim, 57, to Harborview Medical Center. He is in serious, but stable, condition, as of this reporting.
Officers arrested the suspect and booked him into King County Jail for investigation of assault. Police recovered the axe at the scene as evidence.
Detectives in the Homicide and Assault Unit are continuing the investigation.
