The Seattle Police Department (SPD) is investigating an assault involving a large firework that seriously injured a man late Monday night in Seattle鈥檚 Chinatown-International District (CID).
SPD officers were initially called to respond to a shooting near 9th Avenue S. and S. Jackson Street before discovering a man, 23, with “significant facial injuries” and no gunshot wounds. Officers found the victim just before midnight Tuesday. No evidence of a shooting was found at the scene.
The victim was transported to Harborview Medical Center after paramedics applied first aid at the scene.
“Witnesses told officers they saw a vehicle drive by around the time the man was injured and believe someone inside threw a large firework that hit him,” SPD stated.
After receiving the tip, SPD used its Real Time Crime Center to review security video. What they found was a dark vehicle speeding away from the area shortly after the assault. Detectives with the Homicide and Assault Unit are continuing the investigation.
Anyone with additional information is asked to call the SPD Violent Crimes Tip Line at (206) 233-5000.
