Regardless of what voters think of presidential candidate Donald Trump, critics believe he’s causing a distraction.

“Donald Trump is a joke,” Congressman Dave Reichert (R-WA 8th District) told Seattle’s Morning News on ³ÉÈËXÕ¾ Radio.

The former King County sheriff doesn’t necessarily think its Trump’s policies that some Americans are embracing, but his delivery. They’re tired of the way politicians speak to them.

“I like to think that I’ve been able to do this. Because of my law enforcement background &#8212 just kind of say it the way it is and not beat around the bush.”

So what’s the problem?

“Yeah, he’s a joke. Print it,” Reichert said.

The Congressman was the only Washington state Republican to vote last week against a House bill stripping money from so-called sanctuary cities, like Seattle.

“Very, very clearly this was a political vote designed to satisfy the far right of the Republican party. The thing that this law does is strip funding from police officers, hiring grants, anti-gang funding, heroin task force funding, corrections, victims and witness programs, and it’s absolutely ridiculous to use a stick like that to cut police officers and sheriffs offices across the country to make a political point.”

Reichert said he’s always going to support the law enforcement community and these silly votes wouldn’t be happening if the country had serious immigration reform legislation.
