Jake and Spike, co-hosts of “The Jake and Spike Show” on 成人X站 Newsradio, dove into Wilson’s prominent career as a singer/songwriter.

Looking back at Brian Wilson’s career

“The guy was a genius, would you say he’s the most instrumental of the Beach Boys?” Jake asked.

“He was the driving force. He was a creative genius behind the Beach Boys, and the entire sound of surf rock,” Spike responded.

The Beach Boys have sold more than 100 million records worldwide. Between the 1960s and today, the band has had over 80 songs chart worldwide, 36 songs in the U.S. top 40, and four songs topping the Billboard Hot 100, according to .

“I was excited to celebrate Brian’s catalog. [Spike] and I the other day, we were talking about what our favorite love song was, and ended up picking the exact same song, which is perfect,” Jake said.

The Beach Boys: ‘Pet Sounds’

“Brian Wilson with ‘Pet Sounds’ changed everything about the Beach Boys,” Spike said. “This isn’t ‘Surfin’ U.S.A.,’ and when [‘Pet Sounds’] comes out, it’s this beautiful orchestration. Paul McCartney even said, ‘OK, everything is different now; he just changed the game.'”

Rolling Stone ranked “Pet Sounds” No. 2 on its list of the “500 Greatest Albums of All Time,” and The Beach Boys No. 12 on the “100 Greatest Artists of All Time,” according to the band’s website.

“The vocal recording sessions of them singing ‘Wouldn’t It Be Nice’, it’s just so hard to harmonize, how difficult is it for them to do this?” Jake asked.

“It’s nearly impossible. It doesn’t get any better. They’ve always had that as their main skill, it’s their sound, the vocal harmonization,” Spike said.

Jake and Spike slam Sound Transit after Redmond light rail mishap: ‘Keep putting their foot in their mouth’ /kiro-opinion/redmond-light-rail-blunder/4098467 Thu, 12 Jun 2025 12:00:09 +0000 /?p=4098467 The recently opened Redmond light rail corridor was shut down Monday. Passengers were escorted off the train after a part that holds tensioned power lines broke, reported. At one point, a metal section labeled “high voltage” fell onto the track between a train and a concrete wall.

Spike O’Neill, co-host of “The Jake and Spike Show” on 成人X站 Newsradio, took aim at the manufacturers.

“Poorly installed, poorly checked,” he said. “As the world watches this light rail expansion鈥攁nd Seattle public transportation just keeps putting their foot in their mouth鈥攈ow does inspection not? How do we have something fall into the track a month into the ride? High danger, high voltage.”

Jake and Spike bring up Sound Transit CEO after Redmond light rail malfunction

Spike then brought up Sound Transit CEO Dow Constantine, who started in April.

“Thank goodness Dow Constantine is on the job,” he said cheekily. “These kinds of things are not going to happen anymore. We got a guy making twice what he’s worth. He’s going to stop this stuff from happening in the future.”

成人X站 host Jake Skorheim shared similar thoughts on Constantine.

“Making $250,000 when he went into that job, now he’s making $450,000,” he said. “I don’t think he’s worth a quarter of what they’re paying him, but that’s my opinion.”

‘Just want to see him home safe’: Wooden bear gifted by late husband stolen in Mount Vernon /jake-and-spike/jwooden-bear-mount-vernon/4098574 Thu, 12 Jun 2025 00:09:28 +0000 /?p=4098574 A cherished wooden bear was stolen from the porch of a Mount Vernon home, Tuesday.

The bear’s owner, Merrylee, told “The Jake and Spike Show” on 成人X站 Newsradio Wednesday that the bear holds sentimental value, as it was gifted by her late husband as a Christmas present in 1991.

“My husband and I lived in Kirkland at the time, and he had his own wheelhouse tree service in the Redmond Kirkland area, and he had cut a tree down and took the log to a carver out in Fall City, and had this bear carved by this man, I can’t remember his name, and that became my Christmas present for 1991 and it was our first Christmas together,” she said.

Merrylee would even dress up the bear for different occasions. During football season, he would wear his Seahawks shirt, on Halloween, he was Superman, or sometimes he would be casual with a green bow tie.

“He’s a very festive bear,” Jake Skorheim, co-host of “Jake and Spike,” commented.

Merrylee said the bear was wearing a red, white, and blue hat and matching scarf when he was stolen. He is approximately 4 feet tall and weighs 75 pounds. But beyond his charm, the bear is very meaningful to Merrylee.

Wooden bear holds sentimental value for Mount Vernon woman

“Quite a sentimental attachment. My husband passed away in 2018, so this is one of the things that he gave me that is very special to me. And like I say, he’s been sitting on my front porch since 1991,” she shared.

Unfortunately, Merrylee doesn’t have a security camera, and neither do her neighbors.

“I drove around the neighborhood this morning, and I thought to myself, ‘Here’s all these people out here with all this stuff on their lawns, what made my bear stand out, that they would come up onto my porch?’ Because they had to come right up to my front door to get him, and they had to have transportation to take him away. Probably have two men to carry him because he’s right around 75 pounds,” she said.

Merrylee thinks her stolen bear might have been part of a high school prank, adding she just wants to get it back, no questions asked.

“I just want to see him home safe and sound,” she shared.

The bear went missing Monday night from the 400 block of South 28th Street. Anyone with information is asked to call Mount Vernon Police Department’s non-emergency tip line at 360-428-3211.

Mosquito-free world? 成人X站 hosts weigh risks of a world where the pest is extinct /kiro-opinion/mosquito-free-world-kiro/4098023 Wed, 11 Jun 2025 12:00:27 +0000 /?p=4098023 Scientists can now use gene editing technologies to spread infertility among female mosquitoes, reported last week. This means the pesky insects could be wiped out鈥攂ut should they be?

While researchers focus on , critics, like 成人X站 Newsradio fill-in host Mike Lewis, see this as causing potential risks to the ecosystem.

“If you decide to eliminate any single thing, you’re going to have a domino effect because that evolved to eat something, and something evolved to eat it,” he said while filling in on “The Gee and Ursula Show” on 成人X站 Newsradio. “This is the way the planet Earth works, and the idea of eliminating that, I get it, we should work on trying to solve problems with malaria that are significant. Dengue as well, another disease carried by insects, but neither of those should be solved by killing out the population that carries the thing.”

While Lewis was thinking long-term, 成人X站 Newsradio fill-in host Angela Poe Russell brought it back to the present.

“You’re thinking long term, and you’re being strategic, but this is a question for ‘in the moment,'” she responded. “In the moment, do you want to live in a mosquito-free world? Of course, we want to live in a mosquito-free world, and you’re asking us to look at the consequences.”

Finding a compromise for a completely mosquito-free world

However, Poe Russell wondered if researchers could find a compromise.

“There are several things in nature that I could do without, but the reality is, it is part of the system, a food source, or something,” she said. “Could there be some kind of a balance where we’re able, because any kind of species, there can be too many of them? Is it possible that we can reduce the amount?”

Mike proposed not to exterminate the insect, but to eliminate their breeding areas, which could be a solution to managing malaria. He explained his late uncle was an entomologist at the University of Panama and studied mosquito vectors.

“He said, ‘You want to eliminate malaria, you eliminate discarded tires,’ because discarded tires pool water, and he said that you cannot build a better incubator for mosquitoes than old rubber tires sitting in the sun,” Lewis shared. “He said, ‘If you could eliminate that, you’re going to have malaria at a level that is not epidemic level. You’re going to have malaria that is completely manageable.’ Now it doesn’t necessarily cure the malaria, but you cure the spread. The spread, in part, is stagnant water.”

‘Just how racist this sign could be’: Gee, Ursula react to I-5 Uncle Sam billboard’s recent sale /kiro-opinion/i-5-uncle-sam-sign/4098197 Wed, 11 Jun 2025 12:00:21 +0000 /?p=4098197 The drive on I-5 between Seattle to Portland will soon look a little different. The property surrounding a controversial Uncle Sam billboard, which would greet drivers as they left or entered Chehalis, was bought by the Confederated Tribes of the Chehalis Reservation, reported Friday.

Gee Scott and Ursula Reutin, co-hosts of “The Gee and Ursula Show” on 成人X站 Newsradio, agreed the sign didn’t send positive messages. However, Gee found them amusing.

“Here’s my unpopular opinion about this topic. I used to think that sign was funny,” Gee said. “I used to laugh, and every time I would go to Portland or down there, my goal was to see just how racist this sign could be.”

Considered a local landmark by some, the sign frequently displayed opinions that echoed right-wing political rhetoric.

I-5 Uncle Sam sign known for controversial messages

Gee added that he would “always make a point to look at it.” He also questioned what would happen if the tribe put their own messages.

“The reason why it stood out to me is because I remember making the drive from Portland to Seattle back in 1999, the first time I came (here), and I saw the sign,” Gee said. “I don’t remember what it said, but I paid attention like, ‘Whoa. That was kind of different.’ Anyways, my point is, what’s going to happen when they start telling the truth?”

The previous owners of the sign, a cattle farmer and his wife, have been criticized for using it to boast right-wing leaning conspiracy messages, at times targeting former President Barack Obama or stating inaccuracies about COVID-19.

Many locals were unhappy with the sign, and a petition was even drawn up to take it down.

Ursula noted the tribe doesn’t have a concrete plan for the sign yet, but is happy the prominent billboard is now in the hands of the tribe.

“I think there would be an opportunity for the tribe to put in some kind of educational component, learn more about the Chehalis Tribe,” she said.

Jake and Spike: Getting Seattle street lights fixed shouldn’t require a ‘shot-up car seat’ /kiro-opinion/seattle-city-light-car-seat/4097995 Wed, 11 Jun 2025 00:20:21 +0000 /?p=4097995 A Seattle resident struggled for years to get the attention of Seattle City Light after several street lights in his neighborhood went out.

Phil Brandt, of High Point, ultimately brought a car seat that was hit by stray bullets in a nearby shooting to a Seattle City Council meeting鈥攁nd they promptly fixed his neighborhood’s street lights.

“Phil Brandt said that the lights in his neighborhood kept going out, and the city was not replacing them. He called Seattle City Light, which operates the [street lights] and also operates their electricity, and he said, ‘Hey, what’s the deal? These lights aren’t getting turned back on,'” Jake Skorheim, co-host of “The Jake and Spike Show” on 成人X站 Newsradio, said.

Man waits years until Seattle City Light fixes street lights

Jake detailed Brandt’s attempt to get the city’s attention with a shot-up car seat.

“You’re not fixing the lights. Months go by, and more lights are going out. Years go by, and finally, he goes to a Seattle City Council meeting and brings along a car seat,” Jake said. “One night, when the street lights were out, bullets were flying, and a bullet smashed through his window, right into his kid’s car seat.”

After Brandt’s appearance at the city council meeting, changes were made.

“Within hours, they finally came out and started fixing his street lamps,” Jake said.

Spike O’Neill, co-host of “Jake and Spike,” touched on why the unlit street lamps are a safety concern.

“A well-lit street is safer, 100% keeps prowlers away, and keeps hoodlums from hanging out on your streets. Darkness is a hoodlum’s friend,” Spike said.

Jake added that Brandt’s solution should not be the standard.

“You shouldn’t have to bring a car seat in with bullet holes to get your lights replaced,” Jake said.

‘This is deliberate political theater:’ Retired 4-star general scoffs at Trump’s handling of LA protests /kiro-opinion/la-protests-trump-newsom/4097958 Tue, 10 Jun 2025 21:00:15 +0000 /?p=4097958 Dozens of people have been arrested in Los Angeles after multiple days of protesting immigration raids led by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

In response, President Donald Trump sent another 2,000 National Guard troops, in addition to sending 700 Marines, to Los Angeles to quell the protests. Trump has defended his decision despite California Governor Gavin Newsom pursuing legal action against the decision, calling the move “the deranged fantasy of a dictatorial president.”

“This is very serious, deliberate political theater on both sides,” retired four-star General Barry McCaffrey said on “The Gee and Ursula Show.” “The only real issue at stake here is that Trump ran for office saying, ‘I will close the border and I will deport 10 million illegal migrants.’ He’s accomplished closing the border, and now he’s terrorizing a huge population in the U.S. who are here primarily illegally, but employed, paying their taxes, paying Social Security, and they’re facing expulsion from the country.”

McCaffrey added that the 4,000 federalized National Guard troops and the 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines are not engaged or needed for riot control.

“This is a political event, and it’s bad for the country,” McCaffrey said.

Trump publicly voiced his support for the arrest of Newsom, saying, “I would do it if I were Tom,” when asked by FOX News if 聽“Border Czar” Tom Homan should arrest him.

“It’s extreme levels of political immaturity, acting out this kind of fantasy,” McCaffrey said. “If (Newsom) was arrested, it would probably do a lot of political good (for him).”

“Do you foresee Donald Trump continuing this same behavior?” 成人X站 host Gee Scott asked.

“Until he is stopped by the court system, the media, the voters, he’ll proceed in the direction of authoritarian rule,” McCaffrey answered. “It’s authoritarianism. He’s basically ruling by decree, by executive order, and then seeing if anybody opposes them. And that’s not healthy for this democracy. We’re moving in the wrong direction.”

Could Trump send troops to WA?

Governor Bob Ferguson signed a into law on April 21 that restricts out-of-state military forces from entering Washington.

“So this year, our governor signed into law a bill that would require the governor’s permission for the National Guard from any other state to be deployed in Washington,” 成人X站 host Ursula Reutin said.聽“Of course, this all becomes pertinent because of what is going on in Los Angeles.”

The law went into effect immediately due to an emergency clause.

On the federel level, Title 10 of U.S. Code states the president can nationalize and call up the National Guard from any state under three conditions: The invasion or threat of invasion of the U.S.; rebellion or insurrection against federal authority; and when U.S. laws are being obstructed and local law enforcement can’t handle it.

Rioters disrupting the protesters’ message

“We’ve seen that there are protesters, and then there are rioters,” Ursula said. “People who were throwing stuff at the police. People who are setting cars on fire. There are people who are vandalizing stuff, and, in my opinion, in the name of protest, that is not effective. That is not OK and their butt should be in jail.

“But the question is, should the National Guard be called in in this situation when you’ve got a governor and the mayor of the city and, at one point, LAPD saying, ‘We’ve got this under control?'” Ursula asked. “Then, at some point, the police chief says, ‘Well, if it continues, maybe we would need the help from the National Guard.'”

The deployment of National Guard troops and Marines to Los Angeles will cost at least $134 million and last at least the next 60 days, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told lawmakers Tuesday.

“The Trump regime, I mean, administration, is playing great chess,” Gee said. “Because what they are doing is, they know any move you make right now, they’re going to come and they’re going to do their thing. I don’t think you can go and protest the same as you used to before, because the Trump administration is playing chess. They want you to go out there. Let’s just say 100 people are out there, and 99 are protesters with signs in the air. Then there’s one person who throws a rock. It only takes one person to set it off, and here comes what Trump wants. The Trump administration goes around the U.S. saying, ‘Look at what they’re doing.’ Now you lose Ursula, you lose me, and you lose a lot of people because we can’t disagree that the rioters are making it bad for the protesters.”

‘Why do we wait until a tragedy?’ Gee and Ursula urge for better veteran support amid manhunt for Army Ranger /kiro-opinion/manhunt-for-army-ranger/4097679 Tue, 10 Jun 2025 12:00:31 +0000 /?p=4097679 A manhunt is currently underway for Travis Decker, a former Army Ranger accused of kidnapping and killing his three daughters. According to court records obtained by 成人X站 Newsradio, Decker faced challenges after transitioning out of the military.

Gee and Ursula urge veteran support after Army Ranger allegedly kills daughters

“First, I want to just say this before we dig into this Ursula, it’s tragic that those girls are no longer here. Those precious lives are gone,” 成人X站 host Gee Scott said. “I think everyone who’s listening right now, you probably wish that there’s something that you could do to prevent something like this.”

As the search for Decker stretches into Day 10, with more than 100 local, state, and federal officers and agents actively looking for him, both Gee Scott and Ursula Reutin, co-hosts of “The Gee and Ursula Show” on 成人X站 Newsradio, urged for better support when it comes to veterans.

“Let’s all want to do a better job of helping our veterans, helping our people that are really struggling in this country,” Gee said. “Let’s try to do less social programs being divested from. When you’re trying to trim the fat in Veterans Affairs (VA), you’re trying to get rid of workers and things like that, because you’re saying that potentially the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) comes in and does all these things. Let’s put more of a spotlight on the people that are struggling and understand, because what we can’t do is鈥攚e can’t wait until it’s too late.”

In the months leading to the three sisters’ deaths, Whitney Decker鈥檚 attorney, Arianna Cozart, requested a judge to order a domestic violence evaluation and a full psychiatric assessment for Travis Decker during a hearing evaluating his custody rights.

In response, Travis Decker acknowledged his struggle with housing instability and described the challenges he faced transitioning from his career in the military, where he served as an Army Ranger, into civilian life.

鈥淲hen I was separated from active duty, I tried to figure out how to live as a civilian,鈥 he told the court. 鈥淚 didn鈥檛 have family, friends, or any support鈥攅specially moving to a state where I had no one to lean on or even a couch to sleep on.鈥

“Why do we wait until there is a tragedy, when this should be coming on the front end?” Ursula asked. “People have sacrificed their lives, their livelihoods, in service of our country, and they should not be forgotten.

“Now there are going to be a lot of people who say, ‘Look, a lot of people suffer from PTSD. That’s not an excuse. They wouldn’t go to the extent that this person did,” Ursula added. “But that is why I hope they find him, and I hope they find him alive, and he needs to pay the price. But it raises questions about what kind of help is there for our veterans. For people who put their lives on the line and can’t get help when they are suffering?”

Seattle鈥檚 young adult exodus: Millennials, Gen Z leaving the city in post-COVID trend /seattles-morning-news/seattle-young-adult/4096625 Mon, 09 Jun 2025 12:00:11 +0000 /?p=4096625 Census data revealed that Seattle’s young-adult population has declined since the start of the pandemic, bucking the trend that the Puget Sound is a thriving hub for Gen Z, latter millennials, and its hybrid in-between group, “zillennials.”

The population of young adults between the ages of 25 and 34 has decreased by approximately 5% between 2019 and 2023, according to , a drastic difference compared to the 35% increase that occurred between 2013 and 2019.

Where are the young adults going?

“So the question is, where are those people going?” 成人X站 fill-in host Angela Poe Russell said. “I did a little digging, and I found there’s a lure to small rural towns right now. They want anything with nature, lots of amenities, and low cost of living. Florida and Texas are definitely a draw.”

Poe Russell cited a statistic from Realtor.com, revealing that IRS applications to launch new businesses have increased by 13% in the smallest metro areas of rural counties.

“These are my peeps. This is my generation, 25 to 34. I’m 29 now, and all of my friends, everyone that we ask, don’t want to live in the cities anymore,” David Burbank, the producer for “Seattle’s Morning News” on 成人X站 Newsradio, said. “The nightlife holds no appeal anymore, and maybe part of that is crime. You don’t really feel safe being out in Capitol Hill much anymore.”

“If we look at Washington specifically, I’d love to know where people are going in Washington,” Poe Russell said. “I was recently visiting Leavenworth for whitewater rafting, and I saw all these apartments going up, and I was like, ‘Oh, what’s happening?’ Seeing a lot of growth there.”
