Days after former FBI Director James Comey faced criticism, and an apparent investigation, for posting what’s been labeled by many as a violent threat against President Donald Trump, an Evergreen State Professor is doing the same.
Far-left Geography & Native Studies professor Zolt谩n Grossman posted two notes on his personal Facebook depicting “86 47,” in Roman numerals. In one, with the background of red hearts, Grossman posted, “LXXXVI XLVII.”A second post, a day later, shows the image of “LXXXVI XLVII” on a red hat.
The first post, on May 17, came a day after Comey faced condemnation for posting, then deleting, an image of seashells depicting “86 47.” The term “to 86” means to remove, get rid of, or kill, and “47” is a reference to Trump, the nation’s 47th president. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem called it a 鈥渢hreat,” and vowed her department 鈥渨ill respond appropriately.鈥
After blowback, Comey deleted the post and claimed he did not know it was a call for violence, but did acknowledge he believed it to be political.
A disgusting joke about harming Trump
Neither Grossman nor a spokesperson for Evergreen State College responded to a request for comment. Unlike Comey, Grossman didn鈥檛 bother with the faux apology. He’s not even saying he’s mocking people who call “86 47” a threat.
If you鈥檙e wondering, yes, this is the kind of edgy 鈥渞esistance鈥 humor you get from a taxpayer-funded professor at Evergreen, a college famous for lowering the bar so much it鈥檚 basically a tripping hazard.
Making a joke about 鈥86ing鈥 the president, especially after two real, failed assassination attempts, is disgusting. Grossman鈥檚 defenders will call it 鈥渏ust a joke.鈥 And it was a joke; Grossman is the kind of tough-talking activist professor who has aged out of any resistance activism that could resemble cardio.
But when a Republican so much as tweets a mean meme about Biden, it鈥檚 national news, and suddenly we鈥檙e having another lecture about the dangers of political violence. When the target is Trump? Suddenly, we鈥檙e all supposed to loosen up and laugh along.
How is this acceptable at Evergreen State College? Well, it’s Evergreen State College
If a student or staff member at Evergreen posted a joke about a faculty member like “86 63” (the latter numbers representing the average IQ of a professor on campus), the college would freak out, and you鈥檇 see immediate calls for discipline, safe spaces, and another symposium on campus safety.
But since the target is the 鈥渨rong鈥 president, Grossman gets to keep his self-satisfied grin. This is not, after all, a professor who takes his job seriously. He’s not an educator; he’s a , as evidenced by his curriculum. He’s “Decolonizing Place Names” and “Reclaiming the Commons: Black, White, and Indigenous Peoples Reconstructing Community.” These are the types of classes students take, then, upon graduation, immediately complain that they can’t find jobs.
Evergreen and the academic left want you to believe they stand against violence and hate, but the mask slips pretty quickly when it鈥檚 their political enemies in the crosshairs.
