A problematic crash on northbound I-405, near Kirkland, topped off a series of incidents on the roads Wednesday morning.

The Washington State Department of Transportation opened both express toll lanes near 85th Street after a crash blocked all general-purpose lanes. Originally described as “a problem,” the crash around 9 a.m. caused significant backups on I-405.

The Kirkland accident added to a morning commute that kicked off with a crash near the Puyallup River Bridge on I-5 around 5 a.m. That crash caused a four-mile backup.

The I-5 commute further degraded when a BMW hit a construction vehicle in the HOV lane on southbound I-5, causing delays for drivers near Boeing Access Road.

At 9 a.m., ³ÉÈËXÕ¾ Radio’s Chris Sullivan reported drive times from Everett to Seattle and Bellevue were about 15 minutes longer than usual. Renton to Bellevue took about 45 minutes. Federal Way to Seattle was about 45 minutes.
