Bomb threat stops traffic on SR 167 in Sumner

A man approached cars on SR 167 in Sumner on Saturday afternoon and claimed to have an explosive device.
Police blocked all southbound SR 167 near SR 512 around 1:15 p.m. while bomb squads investigated. The roadway was reopened around 2:30 p.m. and the man’s car was being towed away.
The man was taken into custody and police believe he is heavily under the influence.
The road was backed up and traffic was being diverted. Road closures were as follows: Eastbound 512 to southbound 167 is closed. Westbound 410 to southbound 167 is closed. Southbound 167 is being diverted to eastbound 410. Eastbound 512 is being diverted to northbound 167.
