A man with a history of drug abuse and mental illness was killed after charging at Pierce County deputies with a running chainsaw Tuesday morning.
The 36-year-old man died at the scene in the in Graham, according to Detective Ed Troyer.
Deputies used a stun-gun on the man when he first charged at them, according to Troyer. However, the man got back to his feet and continued forward. That’s when deputies shot him.
Deputies were called to the scene at 7:13 a.m. by a woman who said her son, who had previously assaulted her and her husband, was at their home with a chainsaw. The man refused to leave and said deputies would have to shoot him, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.
The man had a history of meth abuse and refused to take medication for a mental health diagnosis, according to the sheriff’s office. His mother filed for a temporary protection order, but deputies hadn’t been able to serve it to him yet.
