Federal Way shooting leaves teen dead, child wounded; suspect at large

An 18-year-old man was shot to death, and an 11-year-old child was wounded by a stray bullet Saturday morning in Federal Way, police said.
The shooting happened at an apartment complex in the 32100 block of 18th Avenue Southwest around 1:20 a.m.
When police arrived, they rendered first aid to the 18-year-old until medics arrived.
鈥淲hile on scene, officers discovered that an 11-year-old child in a neighboring apartment had been struck by a stray bullet while sleeping,鈥 Federal Way police said in a news release. 鈥淭he child was transported by medics to Harborview and is reported to be in stable condition.鈥
Shooting related to domestic violence incident
The 18-year-old died.
Police said the suspect and victim knew each other, and the public is not thought to be in danger.
鈥淎t this stage of the investigation, it is believed that the incident originated as a domestic violence situation involving the victim and his ex-girlfriend,鈥 the release said. 鈥淭here was an altercation between the two parties that ultimately resulted in the shooting.鈥
Detectives are actively searching for the suspect, who fled in a vehicle.
