That evening, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office reported an officer-involved shooting in response to an armed robbery at a convenience store in the Orchards area of Vancouver, Washington. The suspect was described as in possession of a handgun and a stolen vehicle, according to a CCSO .
鈥淭he suspect contacted a homeowner in a nearby residence,” the release continues. 鈥淧olice responded and contacted all parties. In the course of this contact a deputy with the Clark County Sheriff鈥檚 Office discharged his firearm. The individual who was struck was provided medical aid at the scene but was eventually pronounced deceased.鈥
The shooting occurred in Battle Ground, Washington. Battle Ground is the residence of officer Donald Sahota, according to public records.
Oregon Live did not disclose its source, but report independent confirmation that the armed robbery suspect was pursued by police, knocked on doors in Sahota’s neighborhood, entered Sahota鈥檚 residence, and fought with Sahota. A deputy on scene then fired, unintentionally killing Sahota.
鈥淢y heart goes out to Officer Sahota鈥檚 family and friends and those of us in his VPD family as well,鈥 Vancouver Police Chief James McElvain wrote. “His death is a tragic loss, and he will be deeply missed by many.鈥
