A day after the Cathlamet slammed into the piling outside the Fauntleroy ferry dock, its replacement boat is out of service too.

Yesterday, a ferry rammed into the Fauntleroy Terminal docks causing serious damage to itself and two cars that were on board. After a lengthy process yesterday the U.S. Coast Guard was able to move the ferry allowing the route to be reopened.

Fauntleroy ferry dock reopens after US Coast Guard removes crashed ferry

The morning of July 29, a backup ferry was put into service so that the Cathlamet can get repairs done, but the replacement boat has suffered an unknown mechanical failure. It is out of commission until further notice.

The Coast Guard is taking the lead with the investigation, which could take days or weeks to determine why the Ferry made a hard landing.

Ian Sterling with Washington State Ferries says there were no obvious signs of mechanical issues.

No one was injured in the boat crash.

The entire crew was tested for drugs and alcohol, which is standard procedure.

The Fauntleroy dock is still open, but there is only one boat serving the triangle as of Friday morning.
