A Seattle teenager’s glasses may have saved her life in a drive-by shooting.
The Seattle Police Department said Sunday that a 16-year-old girl was lying on a couch inside her southeast Seattle residence when gunfire erupted Saturday night.
Authorities say a bullet struck the bridge of the girl’s glasses and apparently deflected away. The glasses broke, but the girl was not seriously injured.
“I could have been dead and I’m glad the glasses saved me,” 16-year-old Alonza Bryant . “If I didn’t have my glasses on, I wouldn’t be here.”
Bryant was transported to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Several other shots went through walls, the family’s front window and even their television. Several people were inside the home during the drive-by shooting, but no one else was hurt.
Bryant’s mother, Lavette tells KING 5 someone needs to be held accountable.
“I just want whoever did this to come forward,” says Lavette. “You could have killed me. You could have killed my baby. This is my baby. If it wasn’t for God, she wouldn’t be here.”
Investigators believe the teenager was not the intended victim. Gang detectives are investigating.
