Fauntleroy ferry dock reopens after US Coast Guard removes crashed ferry

Jul 28, 2022, 9:03 AM | Updated: 3:37 pm

3:30 update:

Full service should return soon to the Fauntleroy ferry dock, after this morning’s hard landing caused serious damage to a vessel.

A ferry crashed into the Fauntleroy Terminal docks Thursday morning, causing serious damage to the ferry and two cars.

“Fauntleroy service [is] suspended until further notice while assessment is done,” the Washington State Ferry System wrote on social media.

Steve Allen, a ³ÉÈËXÕ¾ Newsradio engineer, was aboard the ferry when it crashed. He described the incident afterward, saying he was “a little shaken up.”

“As we were approaching the Fauntleroy dock I could tell we were coming in fast and too far to the right, we hit the right side of the dock and started veering towards the beach,” Allen said. “We avoided running aground, but the observation deck got smashed along with two cars on board when metal landed on them.”

No injuries have been reported at this time.

Passengers were unloaded onto the dock as a safety precaution.
