Around 1:03 a.m. Seattle Fire Department tweeted that a house was ablaze in Capitol Hill.

When crews arrived at 1118 13th Avenue, across the street from Seattle Academy of Arts and Sciences, flames were enveloping the home in what they called a very “well involved” fire.

Fatal New Year鈥檚 Eve house fire in Tacoma now being investigated as homicide

The massive fire was so intense that firefighters had to exit the building, where crews had to start pouring water onto the home from the outside.

Crews took on a “defensive” strategy when fighting the fire, preemptively hosing down nearby homes, in order to prevent spread.

Once the fire was controlled from the outside, firefighters were able to enter the house to put out the remaining flames.

The house was a vacant 122-year-old home that had been purchased in 2020 by Greencity Development, LLC, and was being developed into 12 townhouse units.

The home has been completely destroyed, and it remains to be seen how this will affect development plans on the lot.

MyNorthwest reached out to Greencity Development and Cone Architecture for a comment, but there has been no response as of the time of publishing.

Crews remained on scene overnight to keep the fire under control.

The cause is under investigation, and there are no reported injuries at this time.
