Update 5/6 6:18 p.m.:

The suspect in a聽fatal Edmonds stabbing at a Winco parking lot April 19 was released from the hospital Saturday and taken to the Snohomish County Jail, the Edmonds Police Department said.

Update 4/27 9:56 a.m.:

Edmonds police are now saying what was thought to be a fatal carjacking outside a shopping center might have actually been a targeted attack.

The suspect, Ian S. Bramel-Allen, appeared to be waiting for the victim to come out from the grocery store, according to surveillance footage.

Surveillance video showed Bramel-Allen walking into the Winco parking lot and over to the victim’s Kia, where he appeared to try to open the passenger side door, which was locked. He then waited behind a retail kiosk outside the Winco exit doors, where he could not be seen by people leaving the store.

When the victim left the store, Bramel Allen followed him, stabbing him when he went to unlock the car,

Bramel-Allen then got into the Kia and left. The victim died from his injuries.

How Bramel-Allen knew the victim was at the Winco is under investigation, and police do not have a motive for the attack.

Edmonds police said the Kia was owned by a woman who was staying in Edmonds around the time of the murder. Police discovered that the woman鈥檚 daughter often used the SUV and had been visiting her mother in Edmonds.

Police said the daughter is acquainted with both Bramel-Allen and the murder victim and that the victim had been allowed to use the Kia to go to Winco for food.

Bramel-Allen is currently in Harborview Medical Center for self-inflicted wounds, and once he is released, he will be booked in Snohomish County Jail for investigation of first-degree murder, first-degree robbery, and car theft.

Update 4/20 11:58 a.m.:

Edmonds Police announced just before noon that Ian Bramel-Allen has been caught after attempting to flee on foot.

He is being taken to the hospital for what police describe as a “self-inflicted injury.”
