Whew newly-elected Mayor Bruce Harrell delivered his first State of the City address back in February, he shared his vision of One Seattle – essentially not the status quo, but rather progress by working together to solve the issues facing the city.

Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell outlines vision for ‘one Seattle’ in inaugural address

In line with that vision, he announced the upcoming first ever One Seattle Day of Service on Monday, as a major community service initiative involving over 2,200 volunteer opportunities.

The first One Seattle Day of Service will be held on May 21 with more than 80 different activities throughout all seven City Council Districts. Most volunteer shifts will be about two to three hours long, and include anywhere from a handful of volunteers to more than 100 depending on the activity. Almost half of the activities are open to all ages.

Among the opportunities:

  • Cleaning and beautification: collecting trash, removing graffiti, building repair, and painting
  • Gardening and restoration: weeding, planting, storm drain protection, and trail repair
  • Helping neighbors in need: grocery packing, donation organizing, and tiny home construction

You can learn more about the event , and can sign up for one of the volunteer opportunities .

Harrell aims to ‘hit reset’ on strained relationship between Seattle mayor, city council

Volunteer events were organized with community groups, business associations, Seattle Parks and Recreation, and Seattle Public Utilities, and are supported by local businesses, civic organizations, and Seattle sports teams.

There are over 80 partner organizations participating in the One Seattle Day of Service, including the Chinatown-International District BIA, Downtown Seattle Association, Pioneer Square Alliance, Chief Seattle Club, Food Lifeline, Urban League, Seattle Mariners, Seattle Sounders FC, OL Reign, UW Husky Football, and more.
