Seattle police continue their search for a missing child after a baby was found safe with family friends Monday morning.
Eight-month-old Zariah Smith was reported safe with a family friend just after 9 a.m., according to the Seattle Police Department. The pair was reported missing around midnight Monday.
Sgt. Sean Whitcomb said she has since been reunited with her mother.
Amaziah Lynch, 12, remains missing.
“Apparently, the 8-month-old was left with a 12-year-old girl,” Whitcomb explained. “She’s the niece of the mother, who had the 8-month-old child.”
He said that at some point, while the mother was out, a family friend came over and collected the baby and a car seat. That’s when Lynch left.
“We don’t know where Amaziah is, but she has a history of running away,” Whitcomb said. “We’re working with DSHS now on finding out where she should be.”
Anyone with any information of her whereabouts is urged to call 911.
“She is 12. She’s still a child,” Whitcomb said.
