A Pierce County Deputy was found unresponsive outside his patrol car in the Parkland-Spanaway area on Tuesday morning.
The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department says Deputy Daryl Shuey has passed away from what appears to be a medical emergency.
“Obviously when we get a call that there’s an officer down, everybody rushes out there. We were concerned about ‘was this something bad that happened, did someone attack him,’ but at this point it seems like it was a medical emergency,” said Sergeant Darron Moss Jr. with the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputy Shuey was taken to a hospital where he died.
The sheriff’s department says Shuey, 57, served as a Deputy Sheriff since 1994. He worked dayshift patrol and had just started when the incident occurred. Shuey is a “proud husband and father and beloved member of our PCSD family,” the office tweeted.
Pierce County law enforcement lined up outside Good Samaritan hospital Tuesday morning for a procession to honor Deputy Shuey.
Minutes ago, I arrived at Good Samaritan Hospital in to find a ceremonial procession of Pierce County law enforcement lining up outside.
