Armed citizen shoots, kills suspect after Pike Place Market shooting

A shooting near Seattle’s Pike Place Market Wednesday night resulted in one death and two injuries.
After the shooting broke out at approximately 10 p.m. at the corner of 1st Avenue and Union Street, Seattle Police Department (SPD) officers needed just two minutes to get to the scene and began lifesaving measures. Two of the responding officers were EMT-qualified, according to SPD.

Three people were involved in an altercation before one of them pulled out a gun and fired at the other two individuals, injuring them both. The suspect then fled the scene.
Armed citizen gets involved, shoots suspect
“When he did (flee), he encountered a private citizen who was licensed to carry,” SPD Chief Shon Barnes told . “That private citizen fired his weapon, striking the suspect. We did recover the suspect’s weapon, and that private citizen is cooperating with us and providing a statement at this time.”
Both victims and the suspect were taken to Harborview Medical Center. The suspect succumbed to their injuries and died at the hospital, while the two victims remain in serious condition.
Both 1st Avenue and Union Street to Pike Place were closed for six hours to allow detectives room to conduct their investigation.
