Fire burns through funeral home in Rainier Valley, no injuries reported

An intentionally set fire blazed through a funeral home in Seattle’s Rainier Valley neighborhood early Wednesday morning, the Seattle Fire Department (SFD) .
SFD responded to reports of a fire that started at approximately 4 a.m. in the 4500 block of Rainier Avenue S.

The fire was inside the Columbia Funeral Home and Crematory. SFD noted that the fire was “well involved,” and put firefighters in a defensive position.
SFD doused the flames from a safe distance away from the building.
Nearly two hours later, at 5:24 a.m. SFD confirmed that the fire had been extinguished, and no injuries have been reported.
The SFD investigators have confirmed that arson was the cause of both Wednesday morning fires in Rainier Valley.
SFD fire investigators have determined both the fire in the 4500 block of Rainier Ave. S. and the 3300 block of S. Hanford St. were intentionally set. Information regarding the fires has been referred to for a follow-up investigation.
